The People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) has inducted a Type 054A Jiangkai II-class guided-missile frigate into service with its East Sea Fleet, a report carried by a PLA-backed news outlet indicated on 19 January.

The 3,500-tonne vessel has been named Huanggang (pennant number 577). Its hull was laid down at the Huangpu Shipyard in Guangzhou in 2013.
It is the first ship in the class to be commissioned in 2015.
The Jiangkai II class is armed with one 76 mm main gun and two Type 730A 30 mm close-in weapon system turrets capable of firing 4,200 rds/min. Submarine prosecution capability includes two RBU 1200 anti-submarine mortar launchers and six 324 mm tubes that can deploy ordnance such as the Yu-7 lightweight anti-submarine torpedo.
The class is also equipped with a 32-cell vertical launching system (sited in the foredeck) that can fire the HHQ-16 surface-to-air missile. Eight C-802 anti-ship missiles are mounted amidships.
Huanggang will join four other Jiangkai II-class ships understood to be assigned to the East Sea Fleet. The PLAN is expected to operate a class of up to 22 ships and, Huanggang is the 20th vessel.
