Brazil's three armed forces chiefs, appointed in 2007 by former head-of-state Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, are to soon be replaced, the Brazilian presidency announced on 8 January.
General Eduardo Villas Bôas was chosen to head the army, Admiral Eduardo Bacellar Leal Ferreira the navy, and Lieutenant Brigadier Nivaldo Luiz Rossato will command the air force. They will replace General Enzo Martins Peri, Admiral Júlio Soares de Moura Neto, and Lieutenant Brigadier Juniti Saito, respectively.
Gen Villas Bôas currently leads the army's Land Operations Command, Adm Leal Ferreira is heading the Brazilian War College, and Lt Brig Rossato the Air Force General Staff.
