A US Navy (USN) destroyer assisting in the AirAsia aircraft recovery efforts in Southeast Asia may be joined there shortly by a Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) recently arrived in the region.

Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Sampson (DDG 102) arrived on scene in the Indonesia. USN spokesman Lieutenant Timothy Hawkins told IHS Jane's that US 7th Fleet has been authorised by US Pacific Command and US Pacific Fleet to position USS Fort Worth (LCS 3) - which had arrived in Singapore in the general search area to aid in the recovery efforts.
