Romanian Air Force’s multirole acquisition program goes according to plan, so the squadron purchased at second* hand from Portugal will be operational in 2016 or 2017.
Defense Minister of Romania, Mircea Dusa, met on Friday with portuguese homologue, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco, and told us that they have complied with all the terms of the intergovernmental agreement.
The F-16s should arrive in Romania from 2015 and will be fully operational after two years. They will be operated by the 86th Air Base at Borcea military airfield.
Note *: The original text say the airplanes are "of third hand", but only three units will be purchased from USA to complete the squadron.
